This type of fraud is where an internet service tries to convince one that they have won a big amount of money in an online draw. Then, they ask for one’s personal information as one tries to claim the money they have supposedly won. They usually claim that one’s Email address was chosen out of many other addresses.
2.) Emails:
Frauds can easily be sent via Email because it is a means of communication that permits one to send messages to many people at a low cost. One should be alert when it comes to fake Emails that ask one to reveal their financial details.
3.) Credit card fraud:
This takes place whereby someone can open a new credit card account and use someone else’s account without their knowledge.
4.) Fake auctions:
Fake auctions give scam artists an opportunity to commit fraud when one is buying and selling goods via internet auction sites.
5.) Identity theft:
Normally, people are asked to provide their personal information when using online services. Unfortunately, not all of them keep this information confidential. Criminals can also gain access to one’s personal information and take loans from their account without them knowing about it.
6.) Phishing:
This is where one gets a hold of a trusted source that tricks one into giving them their information such as passwords and account numbers. The scammers form a website that looks like the real one hence one may find it hard to distinguish the real website from the fake one.
7.) Cyber stalking:
This is when a cyber is able to read one’s Emails and watch the sites one views. It is usually as if someone is following you everywhere you go in the real world and watching your every move.
8.) Mortgage fund:
With mortgage fraud, one lies to the mortgage companies with false information to get a hold of a mortgage.
9.) Hacking:
This is the act of entering into one’s PC system against the law. It is usually easy for the hacker since he or she can just think of a fake online character and go on with his illegal actions without having to use his real identity.
10.) Software piracy:
This is usually done by sharing, downloading, copying, selling, or installing multiple copies on other people computers.
